William James Maxwell was an architectural sculptor who migrated from Scotland to Australia in 1875. He built a mock castle and established a family vineyard just outside Adelaide, which he named Woodlands Park. His son planted vines in nearby McLaren Vale and his grandson served a term as winemaker for Hardy Wines at the historic Tintara wineworks. William Maxwell's progeny remain in McLaren Vale, producing the southern hemisphere's most successful brands of Honey Mead, as well as vintages of the most extraordinary value in McLaren Vale Shiraz. But what does Maxwell taste like? Gentleman James Halliday describes Maxwell as robust, picking the eyes out of McLaren Vale shiraz; licorice, dark chocolate,.. Made of mature vine mclaren vale »

Mostly Sangiovese with a tenth of Merlot. Maritime influences and exceptional soils around the hillside Villa Puccini vineyards consist of clay, limestone and gravel. They impart a notable softness to the fruit. The Villa Puccini Tuscan starts with ripe coastal grapes, fermented according to ancient local traditions, it is then refined into a combination of large and small finely coopered European oak casks. Here it is allowed to mellow for a year, the separate barrels are then rigorously tested by the winemakers until the final mix is determined. The assembled wine is then cold bottled under a nitrogen blanket at the Castellani winery in Santa Lucia, Tuscany, followed by several further months of bottle ageing.
Ruby red colour. Complex bouquet of violets and cherry, chocolate and nuts, olive and bay leaf, lingering with rosemary and thyme. A full rich palate is dominated by blackberry fruits, mints and plum, cedar, oak and cinnamon notes. A dry red wine with depth and breadth, delicious flavours over refined silken textures. Delicious and approachable at its youth, a superb Italian food wine.
