The 1890s brought boom years to the nascent Aussie wine industry, as connoisseurs throughout Europe and the Empire were introduced to the Dionysian delights of new world Claret by Tyrrell, St Huberts and Wirra Wirra. An enterprising family of Scots took heed of the times to plant grapevines on a uniquely auspicious block in Valley Clare, they called it St Andrew and produced forty vintages of the most sensational quality Claret until the 1930s. There were two scrub covered parcels of land, just outside Pokolbin village along McDonalds Road, that local council had long set aside for use as cricket ground and cemetery. Exclusively estate grown fruit, grown and vinified at the Karina wineworks in Dromana on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula. Karina is a small family owned vineyard winery established in the early 1980s. Vines are all closely trimmed to allow direct exposure of berries to the Mornington sun, encouraging full ripeness and optimal development of natural fruit esters. The painstaking management of plantings and intensive regimen of prunings achieves harvests of the finest grapes, hand picked and hand sorted for realization of the most amazing Chardonnay wine.
Deep golden hues. The bouquet reveals rich fruit with hints of spicy oak. On the palate lively melon and peach flavours are in abundance and integrate nicely with the subtle French oak. An underlying yet firm acidity contributes to the overall balance and long clean finish.
