Returned servicemen from the Great War could look forward to government grants of pastoral freehold. West Australia's Willyabrup Valley was such a place, just a short walk from the balmy beaches of Indian Ocean, it offered the veterans excellent potential for agriculture. The fertile lands of Sussex Vale were originally established to animal husbandry by the discharged troopers, generations of livestock enriched the soils and it was astutely sown to vines in 1973. Fortuitously placed at the very heart of the Australian west's most illustrious estates, it continued to occupy the thoughts of neighbouring Howard Park's chief winemaker, until he acquired the property and relaunched a softly spoken range of.. After founding Mornington's eminent Moorooduc Estate and decades crafting the most memorable vintages for Mornington's leading brands, Richard McIntyre established a tiny, single hectare vineyard, on a prominent, high elevation site at Arthur's Seat, with a view to producing limited yields of the most exquisite small batch wines. The techniques of choice are wild yeast ferments, minimal intervention and good French oak, with a nod to traditional Burgundian practices, which allow the wines to speak of provenance, express their specificity of clone and articulate their sense of place. There's not much Bellingham made but every bottle passes through the hands of a team member who has been involved with the.. Limited editions by the master of moorooduc»
Coonawarra cattle graziers since 1906, the Reschke family turned some of their land over to viticulture in the 1980s. Such was the quality of Reschke fruit, that it became an essential inclusion for some of Wynn's most memorable vintages and a number of national icon wines. Reschke now keep the pick of crop for their own label, the most princely harvests of Coonawarra Cabernet, Merlot and Shiraz, characterised by their defined regional eloquence and ingratiating palate weight. Hunter Valley Semillon 2005 - Buy
Semillon Hunter Valley New South Wales
Hunter Valley Semillon is Australia's most profound contribution to the pantheon of conspicuous international white wine styles. Already showing development after some years in the bottle, the plain label behind this splendid rendition of Hunter Semillon belies the quality of fruit within. A generous wiine with evolving toastyness and sublime middle palate richness.
Ever since pioneers established their first vines in the Hunter Valley, it became clear to viticulturalists that the invigorating soils and mesoclimes could produce a style of wine which is unique to the world. Semillon grapes from prominent vineyards are crushed and de-stemmed before the must is chilled and the juices drained. After a period of cold settling, the clarified juices are racked, warmed, inoculated with neutral yeasts and vinified at cool temperatures. After completion, the parcels are assembled and filtered, stabilised and bottled. Handling of the wine is kept to a minimum throughout all stages of the vinification to capture and retain the inimitable fruit characters of Hunter Valley Semillon.
Light straw yellow with an olive hue. Aromatic and clean, with hay and citrus characters, macadamia and tangelo, marmalade and toast. A fine mineral palate with light tropical acids and developed fruit characters, apple/ nut flan, key lime and slate. In fine balance, whilst already showing the benefits of a few years under glass, will continue to develop superbly.
