Johann Gottfried Scholz served in the Prussian army as a battlefield bonesetter, before joining the great emigration of Lutherans from Silesia to Barossa Valley. After building a family homestead along the alluvial banks of Para River, Gottfried established a mixed farm of livestock and crops, fruit trees and grapevines, Semillon and Shiraz. Cotes du Luberon are at the very southeast of Valley Rhone, immediately south of Cotes de Ventoux, where a number of local communes make wine in the same way as their ancient forebears. An eclectic cepage of Bourboulenc and Grenache Blanc, Vermentino and Ugni Blanc. Grapes are lightly crushed and pressed for a long cool fermentation in traditional open vats, a tenth is vinified in the luxury of new French oak barrels while being treated to a course of lees stirring battonage. Components are fined and assembled in the January after harvest.
