Constructed during early settlement by a supervisor of colonial convicts, at the very epicentre of the market gardens which serviced Hobart, Clarence House is a heritage listed manor which remains largely unaltered since the 1830s. It passed through several hands before being acquired by the Kilpatricks in 1993, who answered the call of Bacchus and established the grounds to vine. There are now sixteen hectares of viticulture, several significant Burgundy clones of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with smaller plantings of Sauvignon and Pinot Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet and Tempranillo. What's most unique about the Clarence House vineyards are the soils and topography, a number of northeast slopes which catch the.. Heirlooms of a hobart homestead»
Coonawarra graziers have access to the finest soils for viticulture. Doug Balnaves was born in the very heart of Coonawarra, quite near the sacred cricket pitch at Penola. An accomplished herdsman and shearer, Balnaves took up the challenge of planting vineyards in 1971. Working under the tutelage of legendary Coonawarra winemaker Bill Redman, Balnaves immersed himself in the culture of the vine, ultimately establishing a grande marque of Coonawarra and securing the inaugural presidency of the Coonawarra Vignerons Association. He remains a lifelong member of the Penola Pipe Band. For those who like their wines structured yet satin, powerful yet prettily perfumed, in the mouthfillingly muscular Coonawarra.. There are few family names in the Australian wine industry as eminent and enduring as Glaetzer and Potts, they own and operate many of the oldest and most precious vineyards in Langhorne Creek. John Glaetzer was right hand man to the legendary Wolf Blass throughout the breathtaking sequence of Black Label Jimmy Watson victories. Ben Potts learned his trade at the oldest family owned wineworks in Australia Bleasdale, established by the larger than life Frank Potts in 1858. Ben's great grandfather was the first Langhorne Creek grower to supply grapes to Wolf Blass. The Glaetzer and Potts families have collaborated for decades to achieve many of the nation's most memorable vintages. Together, Ben Potts and.. Vital vintages from the most precious parcels»
Samuel Smith migrated from Dorset England to Angaston in the colony of South Australia circa 1847, he took up work as a gardener with George Fife Angas, the virtual founder of the colony. In 1849, Smith bought thirty acres and planted vines by moonlight, the first ever vintages of Yalumba. One of his most enduring legacies were some unique clones of Shiraz, which were ultimately sown to the illustrious Mount Edelstone vineyard in 1912. Angas's great grandchild Ron Angas acquired cuttings from the Edelstone site and migrated the precious plantings to his pastures at Hutton Vale. The land remains in family hands, a graze for flocks of some highly fortunate lamb. In between the paddocks, blocks of Sam.. The return of rootstock to garden of eden»

Famille Perrin Chateauneuf Du Pape Les Sinards CONFIRM VINTAGE

Grenache Syrah Mouverdre Cotes du Rhone France

The priority at Perrin et Fils is all about the vine's relationship to the earth, the local fauna and the climes by which it is influenced. The estate vineyards are nourished by a compost of sheep's manure and the previous year's pressings which maintain humus content and microbiological equilibrium. Harvest is all done by hand, only the best grapes are sorted and vinified. Varietals are handled separately, the aim being to preserve the individual qualities of fruit and terroir. Components are transferred to large barrels where a racking disturbs it's repose from time to time. Matured in seasoned French oak casks for a year, the wine prepares itself, evolving and maturing until time for assemblage, a light fining and filtration.
Deep ruby colour with violet hues. The nose is very intense on ripe fruits, toast and vanilla from elegant ageing. Characters of lavender and mint leaf are present, within a deeply cherried and cassis palate, evoking impressions of earth, peppercorn and herbs. The mouthfeel is supple and round exhibiting fine structure and stately tannins. A beautiful Chateauneuf Du Pape, striking the balance between maturity of vine and freshness of fruit.
