Right next to the Merry Widow Inn at Glenrowan, infamous of Kelly gang folklore, Richard Bailey set up shop to service prospectors during the great Victorian gold rush of the 1860s. Rows of newly planted Shiraz soon followed and the Baileys released their first vintage in 1870. The region was ultimately infected by the terrible vine killing plague of the 1890s, a guarded blessing for Glenrowan, which elevated the quarantine status of its vitiated vineyards to a marque of the highest provenance. Baileys endure as one of the new world's most arcane and mythical wineworks, a small estate of historically significant parcels, producing limited vintages, defined by their exceptional value, purity of parentage and wondrous regional.. Sandro Mosele is one of Victoria's most accomplished vignerons, his celebrated editions of Kooyong and Port Phillip estates are amongst the most cherished renderings of Burgundy styled Pinot Noir in the nation. Mosele has applied his art to a precious parcel of fruit, picked off a single, modest block of vine, grown to the fully fertile soils of a lamb and beef stud, on the brisk, maritime blown coastals of Gippsland South. This is not Pinot for profit, Walkerville represents an aesthetic appreciation of fruit from the farmer, invigorated by the blessings of providence and consecrations of local livestock. A cornucopia of comely characters, forcemeats and fennel, pectins and pith, Walkerville make Pinot Noir as it should be, bucolic, pastoral, articulate of the land whence it came. Partisans and purists of bespoke presentations in Pinot, are quietly advised to pool their pesetas and avail themselves of a case or two Walkerville Pinot Noir, a mere few hundred dozen are made of each.. Given the favourable climate conditions of the southwest, night cooling is employed to keep the barrel room temperature controlled. The system kicks in when the external temperature reaches 18 degrees Celsius or less. Any warmer internal air is sucked out and the cool night air is allowed to flow into the building. This system minimises refrigeration requirements and environmental impact. A custom designed environmental waste water treatment system means that all of the water used in the winemaking process is recycled and used to irrigate vines and surrounding landscape.

Flametree is a highly meritorious winemaking estate that works very closely with some of the Margaret River's most dedicated growers. Flametree's commitment to excellence is the driving force which sees the quality of their wines gain stature with every vintage. The Flametree team's passionate approach is rewarded by accolades and the respect of peers.
