The story of Langmeil begins with early Barossa settlement, planted to Shiraz by Christian Auricht in the 1840s, the estate vineyards were restored by the Lindner and Bitter families during the 1990s. Some of Herr Auricht's original plantings are still in production, three and a half priceless acres of gnarled, dry grown vines which provided the cuttings for much of Langmeil's refurbished heirloom parcels. The Arras team retain access to an endowment of the finest sparkling wine vineyards in all Australia. Choice parcels of fruit, hand picked off the best blocks within the finest sites, are gently whole bunch pressed, retaining only the first free run juices, to retain freshness and elegance of structure. After a term of cold settling, the individual batches are vinified on light grape solids, followed by a course of malolactic on primary ferment lees. Once clarified, the wines are judiciously assembled to style and prepared for tirage. Six years maturation on yeast lees has built additional complexity and depth. Degorgement and introduction of expedition liqueur completes the Methode traditionelle.
Straw gold hue, crystal clear with fine bead and persistent mousse. Bouquets of orange peel and clove, a sea brine influence, complexed by fresh brioche and pastry yeast aroma. Like the bouquet, lively flavours of sea brine, citrus peel and sweet jasmine flower are complemented on the palate with truffle and butter/ mushroom characters. A racy acid and great persistence of flavour ensure an exciting finish.

For more two decades, the House of Arras have been identifying and developing the ideal vineyard sites for world class sparkling wines. The cold climate, pristine environment and ancient soils are perfect for crafting world class sparkling wine. Tasmania's climate is significantly cooler than the mainland, with long summer daylight and maritime influences, which are Ideal conditions for long, slow and consistent fruit development. The House of Arras sources fruit from many outstanding vineyards in southern Tasmania and the south east coast.

Arras wines express the purity, clean air and cold climate of the Tasmanian isle. Ancient soils make the vines work a little bit harder to grow the grapes. What Arras have learned is how to husband to encourage grapes which can express their best. Part of Ed Carr's long term vision for the House of Arras was to release a single vintage wine with a minimum of 8 years tirage age. This vision is now realised as the House of Arras takes the next step in its journey.
